Trump Beats Biden in Michigan Ahead of Potential 2024 Race

In a recent poll from Emerson College, former President Donald Trump is edging out current President Joe Biden in a possible 2024 Michigan presidential race.

The data revealed Trump securing 43% of the voters’ support, slightly above Biden’s 41%.

Additionally, Green Party candidate Cornel West earned 4%, with another 4% of respondents backing alternative candidates and 7% remaining undecided.

Interestingly, when the survey posed a direct contest between just Biden and Trump, the result was a deadlock, each with 44% of the support.

In this scenario, 8% of the participants chose other candidates, leaving 5% undecided.

The Emerson College poll also highlighted concerns regarding President Biden’s performance.

Spencer Kimball, Emerson College Polling Executive Director, noted, “Just over half of independent voters, 51%, disapprove of the job Biden is doing in office.”

He further mentioned the significance of this demographic by adding, “This is a pivotal group in Michigan that Biden won over in 2020 yet is struggling with both nationally and statewide in recent surveys.”

Historically, Michigan has demonstrated its unpredictable electoral preferences.

In 2016, the state was clinched by Trump with a lead of over 11,000 votes.

However, during the 2020 elections, Biden managed to overturn this result, defeating Trump by a margin exceeding 150,000 votes, as cited by Politico.

An earlier Mitchell Research survey in July showed Biden with a slight edge over Trump, 45% to 43%.

This suggests a shifting sentiment in Michigan’s political landscape.

As for the Republican primary in Michigan, Trump clearly maintains a stronghold.

The Emerson poll displayed an overwhelming 61% of GOP voters favoring Trump, leaving Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis trailing with 13%, followed by former Vice President Mike Pence at 7%.

The survey, which took place over Aug. 1-2, encompassed 1,121 registered Michigan voters and carries a 2.9% margin of error.
