A recent poll by DailyMail.com, conducted by J.L. Partners, suggests a rising trend in public opinion regarding the prospective 2024 electoral rematch between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Trump has managed to edge ahead by one point in this hypothetical match-up, a stark contrast to the results in June when Biden had a two-point lead.
A total of 1,000 probable voters participated in the survey, which has a 3.1-point margin of error, rendering the race exceedingly close.
This implies a noteworthy trend in sentiments, indicating a warning signal for the Biden-Harris campaign.
James Johnson, the co-founder of J.L. Partners, remarked, “Just three months ago, a Trump-Biden rematch looked like the Democrats’ race to lose. Now all has changed and Donald Trump is in the ascendancy once more.”
Johnson went on to comment on the increased enthusiasm among Republicans and Trump’s gains amongst independent voters, younger men, and ethnic minority groups.
This recent poll shows Trump at 45 points compared to Biden’s 44.
This shift is particularly driven by independent voters and graduates, significant constituencies that predominantly supported Biden.
Specifically, Trump has witnessed a two-point lead among independents, a demographic where Biden previously held a 42 to 38 points lead.
Furthermore, Trump has made inroads among graduates, diminishing Biden’s lead from 25 points to 17 points since June.
Johnson highlighted the widespread displeasure with Biden’s economic stewardship and significant worries regarding his age, stating, “Americans want to return to a prosperous nation and there’s only one person who can do that — President Trump.”
Campaign spokesman Steven Cheung reinforced this sentiment, asserting, “The fact is that President Trump will be the nominee and will beat Biden because he’s the only person who can supercharge the economy, secure our border, safeguard communities, and put an end to unnecessary wars.”
The poll reveals that other potential Republican contenders, including former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Senator Tim Scott, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, also hold narrow leads over Biden in hypothetical matchups, while tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former Vice President Mike Pence lag behind.
Moreover, the survey paints a challenging picture for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Forty percent of the respondents rated her as the least effective vice president in recent history, surpassing Republicans Mike Pence and Dick Cheney.
The term “incompetent” was predominantly used by the respondents to describe her, overshadowing positive descriptors like “smart” and “strong.”
