“No one was ever ignoring Donald Trump’s calls. Because if you ignored Donald Trump’s calls, you didn’t know how he would respond,” says liberal comedian.
“Tonight Show” host Trevor Noah ridiculed Joe Biden on Wednesday over reports he couldn’t get Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates to answer his phone calls, noting such a thing would never happen to former President Donald Trump.
“You have got to be kidding me,” Noah said. “I mean, look, I know it’s hard to arrange those calls. You know, Riyadh is eight hours ahead, Biden is asleep by 4 p.m., it’s a narrow window to make it work, but still: That must have been really embarrassing for Biden. Can you imagine? He phones them and they don’t pick up?”
Noah noted that although the White House denied these reports, the two oil-producing countries aren’t listening to Biden’s pleas to pump more oil.
“Now, according to the White House, this story is totally untrue. They deny it, which I would too. But either way, man, there is no denying that Saudi Arabia isn’t playing ball with Joe Biden. And you know what? You can say what you want, but this would have never happened to Donald Trump. Never,” Noah said.
“That’s why I bet, in these situations, Biden actually wishes that he could hire Trump to step in as President Wildcard,” he stated jokingly.
“No one was ever ignoring Donald Trump’s calls,” he continued. “‘Cause if you ignored Donald Trump’s calls, you didn’t know how he would respond. Maybe he’d send an angry tweet, or maybe he’d just, like, ban your country from everything. You don’t know.”
“You know, just keep everyone on their toes. Because if Trump is calling, you’d best believe the UAE—they’ll be racing to pick up the phone,” he added.
The Wall Street Journal had reported that Saudi Arabia and the UAE refused to return Biden’s calls as the Ukraine crisis puts oil production in the spotlight.
“There was some expectation of a phone call [with MBS], but it didn’t happen,” a U.S. official told the Journal. “It was part of turning on the spigot [of Saudi oil].”
