Transgender-Identified Biological Male to Compete in Miss California Pageant

A trans-identifying person who has been crowned “Miss San Francisco” will compete in the Miss California Pageant this July.

QUICK FACTS:
  • A man who identifies as a woman will take place in the Miss California Pageant for the first time this summer.
  • Monroe Lace, the first trans-identifying biological male to compete in Miss San Francisco and win, will now advance to take part in the Miss California Pageant next month.
  • “Every time I put on the sash, the weight of it reminds me of the weight of my job; of the responsibility I have to make a difference for young children,” Lace said.
  • While visiting different elementary schools, Lace has been seen on video reading “Sparkle Boy,” a children’s book about a boy who wants to wear women’s clothing, to children as young as fourth grade.
  • The transgender man claims he has been “dreaming about this since I was 12 years old.”
TRANSGENDER MISS SAN FRANCISCO ON “IMPACTING” TRANS-IDENTIFYING CHILDREN:

“It felt like a dream, because it’s been a dream that I’ve had since I was a child,” Lace said. “Even though I am Miss San Francisco, I know my impact is much greater than that.”

  • Enriquez had been crowned Miss Silver State USA in March before moving on to win the Miss Nevada USA title.
