Three people lost their lives and another was injured in a small plane crash Friday morning in Boca Raton, Florida, following apparent mechanical failure, according to first responders and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The aircraft, a Cessna 310, had departed from Boca Raton Airport and was en route to Tallahassee International Airport. Authorities confirmed that all three people on board died in the crash. A fourth person, who was on the ground, suffered non-life-threatening injuries after his vehicle passed through flames that erupted from the wreckage. He was transported to a nearby hospital.
The plane crash occurred around 10:20 a.m. near Military Trail, a major road close to Interstate 95. The impact and subsequent fire forced officials to close North Military Trail between Northwest 19th Street and Butts Road. The Glades Road overpass at I-95 was also shut down in both directions as emergency crews responded.
Boca Raton Police and the FAA are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Authorities have urged the public to steer clear of the area while the investigation and cleanup efforts continue.
Last month, a single-engine plane crashed into a residential home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, igniting a massive fire.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft was a SOCATA TBM7, which had departed from Des Moines International Airport in Iowa and was en route to Anoka County-Blaine Airport near Minneapolis. At approximately 12:20 p.m., the plane went down in a Brooklyn Park neighborhood.
Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Shawn Conway confirmed that no one inside the home was killed, but tragically, there were no survivors among those onboard the aircraft.
