Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched investigations into three school districts for assisting in protests against federal immigration enforcement operations.
The school districts, North East Independent School District, Dallas Independent School District, and Manor Independent School District, failed to ensure the safety of students and prevent mass interruptions of classroom instructions, Paxton’s office explained. The school districts are to produce information surrounding policies such as leaving campus, class absences, security procedures, and communication pertaining to the protests.
“I will not allow Texas schools to become breeding grounds for the radical Left’s open borders agenda,” Paxton said in a statement. “Let this serve as a warning to any public school official or employee who unlawfully facilitates student participation in protests targeting our heroic law enforcement officers: my office will use every legal tool available to hold you accountable.”
Manor ISD said in a statement to FOX 7 Austin that it is “confident the review will show that staff followed district procedures and Texas Education Agency guidance, including ensuring attendance guidelines were followed and keeping student safety as the top priority during the days the walkouts occurred.”
Similarly, North East ISD said it is “fully cooperating and gathering documentation” on the matter and will provide “additional documentation for other schools as well.”
Paxton’s investigation follows one he launched into Austin ISD for similar protests. He said on February 2 that the school officials are “trying to impose their radical political agenda on the next generation by not only allowing them to skip class to protest lawful immigration enforcement activities, but worse yet—use tax dollars to do so.”
His office has also taken measures to address discrimination against religious students in universities, as well as prevent Islamic entities from operating in the state.
