The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that a man was shot and killed by law enforcement after driving through the glass doors of the Killeen Mall on Saturday evening, injuring five people.
The incident began around 5 p.m. during a police chase when the suspect drove a truck into the mall, crashing through the entrance of a JC Penney store and striking multiple individuals. Authorities stated that five people sustained injuries, with four being transported to the hospital via emergency services, while the fifth person sought medical attention independently. Some of the injuries were described as severe.
After driving into the store, the suspect exited the truck and attempted to flee on foot. Law enforcement from multiple agencies pursued the man and opened fire, resulting in his death. The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed.
Authorities clarified that, contrary to rumors on social media, there was no active shooter situation at the mall. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
