Tesla Charging Unit Sparks Massive Garage Fire in Lewisville

A Tesla charging unit triggered a two-alarm garage fire in Lewisville, Texas, on Monday, causing major damage to the home’s upper floors and destroying a second vehicle, according to city fire officials.

The fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. when the homeowner returned and plugged in her Tesla. Shortly after connecting the vehicle, the charging unit caught fire. Flames quickly spread to a nearby Lexus in the garage, intensifying the blaze. The homeowner managed to move the Tesla out of the garage and parked it down the street. The electric vehicle remained undamaged, but the fire continued to escalate.

As the fire grew, it engulfed the Lexus and spread to a game room located above the garage. The flames then advanced into the attic and other upper levels of the house. By the time firefighters arrived, the structure had sustained significant damage. Crews worked for nearly 45 minutes to contain the blaze, finally gaining control by 1:15 p.m.

No injuries were reported, though one firefighter required on-scene treatment for heat exhaustion. Footage from the scene showed the burnt Lexus pulled onto the driveway and large sections of the home’s roof charred and exposed. The garage and second floor bore the brunt of the fire’s destruction.

Fire officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the charging unit’s ignition. As of now, Tesla has not issued a public statement or responded to inquiries regarding the incident.

This fire raises ongoing concerns about the safety and reliability of electric vehicle charging units in residential settings. The incident is under active review as officials work to determine what sparked the dangerous malfunction.
