Temple University police are investigating a troubling incident in which individuals impersonated U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on campus.
The disruption occurred Saturday night at Insomnia Cookies on Cecil B. Moore Avenue, where three individuals wearing shirts with “Police” and “ICE” lettering were reported. One of the suspects was also seen recording the incident.
Earlier that night, the same individuals attempted to enter the Johnson & Hardwick Residence Hall but were denied access.
Campus police have since arrested 22-year-old Temple student Aidan Steigelmann, who has been charged with impersonating a public servant and placed on interim suspension as the investigation continues.
Temple police expressed their disappointment, stating, “It is deeply troubling and disappointing to know behavior like this reportedly occurred on our campus.” Authorities are still searching for two additional male suspects connected to the incident.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported 7,300 illegal immigrants in the first week of President Donald Trump’s second term. Many of those deported were violent criminals.
“In the first week of the Trump Administration, we have fulfilled President Trump’s promise to the American people to arrest and deport violent criminals illegally in the country. In one week, law enforcement officials have removed and returned 7,300 illegal aliens,” ICE said in a statement.
In a video shared on social media, ICE noted that deportation flights have begun returning migrants to countries such as Mexico, Jordan, Brazil, and El Salvador.
“Ensuring Americans’ safety and securing the border is President Trump’s and Secretary Noem’s top priority,” ICE declared.
