Nearly 100 congressional Republicans demanded Thursday that the Department of Homeland Security detail its plan for dealing with a caravan of migrants making its way through southern Mexico toward the US border.
Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz introduced legislation Tuesday that would bring processing centers for illegal immigrants to places such as Martha’s Vineyard and other Democrat-led communities amid the ongoing border crisis.
The number of those apprehended crossing the southern border illegally during fiscal year 2021 that ends today exceeds the population of 11 American states.
During an interview on the Fox News Channel on Monday, Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. Christopher Olivarez said that the situation on the border is “out of control” and without “stiffer policies” from the Biden administration, “we’re going to continue to see these historic numbers month in and month out.”
When President Biden took office in January, his administration ordered an immediate halt on the construction of a 30-foot high border fence, leaving a gaping hole at one of the most vulnerable stretches of the US-Mexican border.
