The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the United States Agency for International Development funded an EcoHealth Alliance subcontractor's efforts on coronaviruses, according to a report found through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
However, a recent U.K. community-based population study found that those who have previously been infected with SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19, demonstrate a lower rate of new Omicron BA.4/BA.5 infections compared to those who were vaccinated.
The non-profit organization, led by British zoologist Peter Daszak, was at the center of the COVID-19 lab leak theory when former President Donald Trump suspended the grant in April 2020.
"It may be next year or it may be in your grandparent—your grandchildren and your great grandchildren's lifetime," he added. "We don't know," says Dr. Fauci.
