Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) asked this week for the GOP floor leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, to step down from his top post amid health concerns.
The 81-year-old Republican leader was in the midst of a press interaction when a journalist inquired about his intention to run for reelection in 2026.
Trump's indictment gives him "an opportunity that he has never had before, which is to have subpoena power since January 6 in a way that can be exercised in federal court."
