States with Republican governors are leading the U.S. economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, while those run by Democrats – which tended to impose lengthier and stricter lockdowns on businesses – are faced with significantly higher unemployment rates. 

At a Wednesday news conference, President Joe Biden threatened legal action against governors who ban local mask mandates for schools.

The office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday afternoon the governor tested positive for COVID-19. He is reported to be isolating in the Governor’s Mansion.
