Elon Musk has made a controversial offer to buy Twitter Inc., saying the company has extraordinary potential and he is the person to unlock it.

With the rejection, Musk, who is now the company's biggest shareholder, is free to raise his stake above that limit.

In a surprise announcement, Elon Musk turned down a seat on Twitter’s board of directors, according to a recent post by the company CEO, while speculations abound on the rejection as Musk was increasingly vocal about bringing about changes on the platform.

Elon Musk on Saturday openly mused about whether or not Twitter is "dying" due to its apparently low popularity among major celebrities.
