A Lahaina resident conveyed her disdain for the bureaucratic response to the wildfires.

A man fatally shot three people inside a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida Saturday in a predominately Black neighborhood in an attack that the local sheriff called “racially motivated.”

The local government in Maui has sued the Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) this week after claiming the business caused the deadly wildfire earlier this month.

These fires are considered the deadliest in the nation over the past 100 years, taking 115 lives with roughly 400 individuals still unaccounted for.

A company in Hawaii claims that it was delayed for hours to help put out the deadly fires that devastated the island while a government agency, led by a man who has pushed for "water equity," consulted with local farmers. 

“The President and First Lady will travel to Maui on Monday, August 21 to meet with first responders, survivors, as well as federal, state, and local officials, in the wake of deadly wildfires on the island," said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

The bird flu, specifically the H5N1 strain, is often cited as the most likely Disease X candidate due to the threat of recombination.
