In November 2017, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that MosquitoMate, Inc. had submitted plans to infect live male mosquitoes with a bacteria called "Wolbachia pipientis," which enhances WNV infection.
The lab, previously operating under the company name Prestige BioTech, was found to contain labeled viruses and bacteria including hepatitis B and C, dengue, HIV, herpes, tuberculosis, rubella, coronavirus, and malaria during an inspection in March.
The FDA issued a warning last week to stop using a particular COVID at-home test due to the potential for bacterial contamination in the product’s solution.
