AT&T's recent deplatforming of Newsmax, one of America's most influential cable news channels, should alarm everyone, including liberals.

Gigi Sohn, President Joe Biden's nominee for a seat on the Federal Communications Commission, told a Senate Committee Tuesday that the agency should investigate AT&T DirecTV's "deplatforming of Newsmax," which she described as "very troubling."

"We are going to see accountability, transparency, and we're going to shine a light on Big Tech's efforts to silence conservatives," said Sen. Cruz.

Since DirecTV dropped Newsmax on Jan. 24, AT&T's stock has fallen by almost 7%, wiping nearly $10 billion from its market value.

Rep. James Comer, who chairs the powerful House Oversight and Reform Committee, said on Newsmax Friday that there will be "a committee that's going to hold hearings" on DirecTV's cancellation of its contract to air Newsmax, as there appears to be a "pattern" among media leaders to censor conservative speech.

Social media companies "should err on the side of allowing a wide range of political speech, even when it offends," said ACLU executive director Anthony Romero.

"I would cancel @DIRECTV for censoring @NEWSMAX but I already canceled them for canceling @OANN," Paul tweeted.
