Suspicious Packages Sent to Election Officials Throughout the U.S.

Election offices in Iowa, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wyoming, and Oklahoma received suspicious packages on Monday, containing white powder, though no hazardous materials were reportedly found.

Hazmat teams responded to the scenes, with Iowa evacuating officials as a precaution.

“We have specific protocols in place for situations such as this,” Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate said in a statement. “We immediately reported the incident per our protocols.”

Oklahoma officials identified the substance as flour, while Wyoming authorities have yet to confirm the contents.

The incident, the second in a year, coincides with early voting for critical presidential, Senate, and state elections. Federal agencies, including the FBI and U.S. Postal Service, are investigating.
