Suspended UW Student Group Defies Ban, Backs Hamas

Despite suspension, a radical student group at the University of Washington continues promoting pro-Hamas activism. Students United for Palestinian Equality and Return (SUPER UW) lost recognition after a violent campus takeover in May that caused over $1 million in damages.

More than 30 individuals—some armed—barricaded themselves inside a university building, set fires, and vandalized property. The university has suspended 21 students, but the group remains active on public grounds, distributing materials and glorifying Hamas’s October 7 attack as a “heroic victory.”

SUPER UW also promoted Samidoun, a U.S.-sanctioned group linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a designated terrorist organization. Federal officials have launched a full investigation into the group’s activities and university oversight.

The Department of Education, Health and Human Services, and General Services Administration are reviewing UW’s handling of the situation. Security experts warn of growing terrorist influence behind campus demonstrations, with evidence pointing to foreign-backed coordination.
