Suspect Arrested in Connection to Death of Kansas City Reporter in New Orleans

Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of Adan Manzano, a Kansas City reporter who was in New Orleans on assignment to cover the Super Bowl.

On Thursday, Feb. 6, Telemundo KC announced the passing of Manzano, 27, who was found unresponsive in his Kenner hotel room on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

By Friday morning (Feb. 7), Kenner police arrested Danette Colbert, of Slidell, after security footage allegedly showed her using Manzano’s credit card at several stores in the New Orleans area. Investigators say Colbert was also seen on video with Manzano the morning of his death and later leaving his hotel room.

At this time, Colbert has been charged with fraud and theft-related offenses but has not been formally charged in connection with Manzano’s death. Police note that Colbert has a history of financial crimes, including accusations of drugging men, stealing cash, and fraudulent use of credit and debit cards.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Manzano’s death, and additional charges may be filed as more details emerge.

As tens of thousands of football fans arrive in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX, they will be met with an extensive security operation aimed at ensuring their safety.

In response to the tragic New Year’s attack on Bourbon Street that claimed 14 lives, law enforcement agencies have ramped up their efforts to secure the city during the NFL’s biggest event.

More than 2,000 federal agents are working alongside the New Orleans Police Department, with 350 National Guard troops stationed throughout the area. Officers from surrounding parishes will also assist in maintaining order and protecting both residents and visitors.
