The State Department has begun implementing the phrase “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence.”
According to an email obtained by the Associated Press, Michael Drager, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, wrote to employees, “Following the president’s remarks at the GA today, please change all references of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ to ‘Super Intelligence’ in our documents and positions. We will be using ‘SI’ in all remarks, positions and press elements moving forward.”
The email’s subject read “Change in Nomenclature AI to SI.”
The shift aligns with comments made by President Trump during the United States General Assembly. “The United States also totally rejects any attempt to construct a globality scheme to control for the artificial intelligence being spoken of so much now, hereinafter called super intelligence. Changing the name,” Trump told the leaders. “The use of the word artificial makes intelligence sound fake. It is not fake. It’s actually amazing. But we have to be careful. In fact, it is exactly the opposite of what it purports.”
“From this point forward, all of United States documents and hopefully the world’s will be changed to use the much more accurate term super as opposed to artificial,” Trump said. “In other words, welcome to the new world of super intelligence – S.I.,” he added. “Let’s see if that goes. It sounds much better. It is much better, and it’s much more accurate.”
Trump’s statement came on the heels of his announcement that he intends to create an “AI Force” to expedite the growth of artificial intelligence.
