‘Squad’ Member Rashida Tlaib Refuses to Endorse Kamala Harris

Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib has made waves by refusing to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, a move that could impact the Democratic stronghold of Michigan.

Her choice not to support Harris at a Detroit rally comes as the 2024 election approaches, with Michigan seen as a critical “blue wall” state for Democrats. A Republican win here could challenge Harris’ White House chances.

Tlaib, a member of the progressive “Squad” and the only Palestinian-American in Congress, has clashed with the Biden-Harris administration over their support for Israel, recently drawing criticism for her vocal support of Hamas.

During the rally, Tlaib did not mention Harris, instead urging voters to “fight back against corporate greed” and focus on nonpartisan voting.

She also pointed her constituents toward other candidates, saying, “There’s other people on this ballot that support a ceasefire. There’s other people on this ballot that can protect our community.”

Fellow “Squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and United Auto Workers leader Shawn Fain endorsed Harris at the rally, creating a stark contrast.

Tlaib’s lack of endorsement reflects a broader shift in Michigan, particularly within its influential Muslim community, where many feel the administration has been too supportive of Israel.

Some anti-war candidates, like Jill Stein and Cornel West, will also appear on Michigan’s ballot, giving disaffected voters alternatives.
