Southern California Braces for Another Powerful Storm

Southern California is in for a cold and stormy week, with another powerful weather system set to arrive by midweek. After a second storm swept through the region on Sunday, cool and dry conditions are expected to start the week.

On Monday, the storm was tapering off but continued to impact parts of the area. Meteorologists warned that snowfall would persist in local mountains, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 10 a.m. However, by the afternoon, skies are expected to clear, bringing mostly dry conditions and sunshine.

“Boy, did this storm give us a mixed bag of weather depending on where you were,” said FOX 11 Meteorologist Soumada Khan when recapping the weekend weather.

“If you were along the coast, there was more wind and rain and if you were in the foothill communities, there was a lot more rain and in our higher elevations, there was a lot of snow,” she explained.

Tuesday will remain cool and dry, but forecasters caution that another storm system will move in by Wednesday and Thursday. According to meteorologist Khan, this third storm in the series “is going to pack a little bit more of a punch,” bringing additional rainfall and more mountain snow.

As Southern California prepares for another round of powerful wet and wintry weather, residents are advised to stay updated on forecasts and take precautions for potential travel disruptions.

In Phoenix, the first dust storm of the season swept through this weekend, reducing visibility and making travel conditions hazardous. The storm, captured by Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) cameras near Loop 303 and Thomas Road, added a challenge for drivers navigating the West Valley. Given Arizona’s warm and dry winter, this likely won’t be the last haboob of the season.
