Senator Mitt Romney Will Not Seek Reelection

Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) will not seek reelection following his current term.

He said in an X video, “Frankly, it’s time for a new generation of leaders. They’re the ones that need to make the decisions that will shape the world they will be living in.”

Romney, age 76, was elected as Senator in 2018, having previously served as the Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007.

His term ends in January 2025.

Romney’s video announcement also attacked Joe Biden and Donald Trump for their stance on the “ambitious authoritarians of Russia and China.”

“Neither President Biden, nor former President Trump, are leading their party to confront those issues,” Romney said. “On deficits and debt, both men refuse to address entitlements, even though they now this represents two-thirds of federal spending.”

“Donald Trump calls global warming a hoax, and President Biden offers feel-good solutions that make no difference to the global climate.”

In one of his final statements, Romey noted that the “next generation of leaders must take America to the next stage of global leadership.”

Reporting from The Gateway Pundit:

The decision by Romney to step aside for a new generation, even though he himself appears to be healthy enough to serve another term, could be seen as a move to prod older politicians in both parties to move on. In the Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), 81, and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), 90, have faced calls to step down due to age and infirmity. In the House, former Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), 83, who stepped down from leadership last year, announced she is running for another term next year. Pelosi has served in the House since winning a special election in 1987.
