Senate Republicans Call for Swift Confirmation of Trump’s National Security Team After New Orleans Terror Attack

With only 18 days remaining until President Trump’s return, Senate Republicans are urging the swift confirmation of his National Security team in the wake of a devastating terror attack in New Orleans. The attack, which has been linked to ISIS inspiration, underscored the urgency of having a strong, capable security apparatus in place to protect the country.

The proposed national security team includes Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense, Kash Patel for FBI Director, and Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence. These appointments have garnered support from key Republican leaders in the Senate, who emphasize the critical need for effective leadership in the face of growing global threats.

Incoming Senate Republican Leader John Thune (R-SD) shared his thoughts on X, offering condolences to those affected by the attack. He called for immediate action, stating, “The American people expect clear answers from the administration. The threat posed by ISIS will outlast this administration, and this is a clear example of why the Senate must get President Trump’s national security team in place as quickly as possible.”

Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) echoed Thune’s call, emphasizing the importance of confirming the national security team swiftly, noting that “lives depend on it.”

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) also raised concerns about the FBI’s failure to address security threats, asserting that the agency’s recent priorities have been misaligned. She pointed out that, instead of focusing on fighting terrorism, the FBI has wasted resources on initiatives like DEI seminars and politically motivated investigations.

The Senate’s swift confirmation of President Trump’s national security team could play a pivotal role in ensuring the nation’s safety amid rising global threats.
