The I-15 was closed near Baker, California, in both directions after a semi-truck carrying lithium batteries, which power electric vehicles, caught fire Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the San Bernardino County Fire Department (SBFD) responded to the fire and fuel spill.
The highway, which connects Los Angeles to Las Vegas, allegedly closed down Friday and did not reopen until Sunday.
The trailer reportedly spilled hazardous batteries as well as an oil leak onto all lanes.
Crews have attempted to move the trailer with an excavator but because of the weight their efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
Officials also have “air quality concerns,” due to the material that was spilled on the roads.
On Saturday morning, a different semi trick incident took place in Richfield, Utah, also carrying a lithium ion battery.
According to a post by the Richfield City Police, the semi tipped while carrying a 77,000 pound battery exposing an “extreme fire hazard” to the area.
The area the truck overturned was blocked off while workers removed the heavy battery.
