A secret service leak involving Vice President JD Vance’s protective detail has triggered an internal investigation and placed a U.S. Secret Service employee on administrative leave. The agency confirmed the action after undercover footage released by journalist James O’Keefe allegedly showed the agent disclosing sensitive security information.
According to the U.S. Secret Service, the employee’s security clearance has been suspended and access to agency systems revoked while the investigation continues. Deputy Director Matthew Quinn said the agency acted swiftly once the allegations surfaced. “The U.S. Secret Service has no tolerance for any behavior that could potentially compromise the safety, privacy or trust of our protectees,” Quinn told Fox News.
Quinn confirmed the agency has ordered all personnel to retake mandatory anti-espionage training. The step follows concerns that the alleged secret service leak could point to broader vulnerabilities. “The U.S. Secret Service has also issued an order for all personnel to retake the agency’s required anti-espionage training,” Quinn said.
O’Keefe stated that undercover footage shows an agent assigned to Vance’s detail sharing information with someone believed to be a romantic interest. The information allegedly included “protective formations, shift schedules, travel plans, & real-time locations.” O’Keefe also alleged the agent shared images while aboard Air Force Two.
The Secret Service issued a formal apology to the vice president’s family. “The U.S. Secret Service deeply apologizes to the Vance family for this violation of their trust and privacy,” Quinn said. The agency emphasized its “160-year-old tradition of discretion” and stated it remains committed to preventing similar incidents.
The Secret Service did not provide a timeline for the investigation or indicate whether criminal charges may follow.
