Russian Military Assets Being Moved Away from Ukrainian Border

News is spreading that Russia’s military could be withdrawing from the Ukrainian border following a video that shows tanks backtracking.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Russia appears to be pulling back from the Ukraine border on Tuesday, according to The Gateway Pundit.
  • Additionally, The New York Times reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that they decided to “partially pull back troops.”
  • This move is being seen as the biggest indication that Russia might de-escalate its military standoff with Ukraine and allow the threat of war to dissipate.
  • CBS News reported that the Ministry of Defense announced the revocation of some of their over 100,000 troops back to their bases, following “sire warnings” from the United States.
WHAT PUTIN SAID:
  • “We are also ready to continue on the negotiating track, but all these questions, as has been said before, must be viewed comprehensively,” Putin said.
  • Putin also stated that the Kremlin was willing to pursue their objectives through negotiations instead of an immediate launch of military actions, saying that Russia would still go after their plan, saying that the outcome “does not only depend on us.”
  • “We intend to and will strive to reach agreement with our partners on the questions that we posed, in order to solve them by taking a diplomatic path,” Putin said.
BACKGROUND:
  • Russia began amassing its troops along Ukraine’s border weeks ago, prompting nations of the world to weigh in, discouraging the invasion in the harshest possible terms.
  • The United States Government issued a warning to Americans in Ukraine asking them to leave the nation, with POLITICO reporting on Feb. 12 that the U.S. was telling Americans “It is past time to leave.”
  • Even the American Embassy in Kyiv has been ordered to evacuate, according to The Hill.
