The Trump administration is set to present its strategy to conclude the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine at the upcoming Munich Security Conference in Germany. Keith Kellogg, President Donald Trump’s special representative for Ukraine and Russia, will outline the proposal, which coincides with the war’s third anniversary.
The plan reportedly involves freezing the current conflict lines, leaving territories occupied by Russian forces in a state of limbo, while providing Ukraine with security guarantees to prevent future aggression. Kellogg is scheduled to visit Ukraine later this month to discuss the proposal with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In addition to diplomatic efforts, President Trump has threatened Russia with increased sanctions if it refuses to engage in negotiations. He has also suggested that U.S. support for Ukraine could be contingent upon access to Ukraine’s critical mineral resources.
Ukrainian officials have expressed skepticism about proposals that involve making concessions to Russia. Dmytro Lytvyn, an aide to President Zelenskyy, labeled such plans as “failed” if they consist solely of a ceasefire and elections, emphasizing the need for comprehensive security guarantees to prevent future conflicts.
As the administration prepares to unveil its plan, discussions with both Ukrainian and Russian officials are ongoing. The international community awaits the details of the proposal and its potential impact on the protracted conflict.
