Russia Says It Hit 74 Ukrainian Military Facilities

  • More than 70 ground infrastructure facilities belonging to Ukraine were incapacitated by strikes carried out by Russia’s Armed Forces, Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov told reporters on Thursday, The Russian News Agency (TASS) reports.
  • Konashenkov said a total of 74 ground facilities of Ukraine’s military infrastructure were knocked out of action.
  • Among those facilities are 11 airfields belonging to the Air Force, three command points, a Ukrainian Navy base and, 18 radar stations of S-300 and Buk-M1 missile systems, Konashenkov specified.
  • According to him, a combat helicopter and four Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles were shot down.
  • But Konashenkov stressed that the strikes carried out by Russia’s Armed Forces are not targeting Ukrainian cities as well as social facilities in military garrisons, according to TASS.
WHAT UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT ZELENSKYY IS SAYING:
  • Currently, Russian troops are attempting to seize the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has warned, The Telegraph reports.
  • “Our defenders are giving their lives so that the tragedy of 1986 will not be repeated,” Zelenskyy tweeted.
  • “This is a declaration of war against the whole of Europe.”
BACKGROUND:
  • The attack comes as airborne Russian troops captured Antonov international airport on the outskirts of Kyiv, according to The Telegraph.
  • Ukraine’s armed forces have been ordered to repel the invasion by inflicting “maximum losses” on the enemy, Major General Valeriy Zaluzhn said.
