Russia Sanctions Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Other U.S. Leaders

Moscow announces sanctions against U.S. leadership, including Joe Biden, chiefs of the Pentagon and CIA.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Russia on Tuesday sanctioned Joe Biden, Secretary of State Tony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Hillary Clinton, Hunter Biden, and other administration officials and political figures, according to Newsweek.
  • Moscow has said that the sanctions are a response to Washington blacklisting top Russian leaders, including President Vladimir Putin, Russia’s Foreign Ministry saying in a statement translated to English that the measures were “on the basis of reciprocity.”
  • The latest additions to Russia’s “stop list” were announced by the Kremlin on Tuesday, and were described as a “counter reaction” to the “extremely Russophobic course taken by the current US administration,” RT News notes.
WHO ELSE IS ON RUSSIA’S ‘STOP LIST’:
  • Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, CIA Director William Burns, and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki are also on the list.
  • Further down the list, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Biden’s son Hunter—whose dealings with a Ukrainian energy firm have previously been questioned and criticized—are also included, according to RT.
BACKGROUND:
  • RT also indicated that Russia will add more names to the list “in the near future,” as the statement continued, warning that “top US officials, military officials, lawmakers, businessmen, experts and media personalities who are Russophobic or contribute to inciting hatred towards Russia” will also be blacklisted.
  • Russia also placed sanctions on Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and 300 MPs, according to Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
