Russia Bans Transgender Surgeries, Blocks Transgender Adoption of Children

Russian lawmakers have passed laws banning transgender surgeries.

The law includes a statement that prohibits transgender individuals from becoming foster or adoptive parents.

According to the lawmakers, the bill seeks to promote “traditional” values.

“The Western transgender industry is trying to seep into our country, to open up the window for its multibillion-dollar business,” said Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy.

BBC reported that Speaker of the Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, said the bill will “protect our citizens and our children.”

“We are the only European country that opposes all that is happening in the States, in Europe and does everything to save families and traditional values,” Volodin said.

“And we need to understand that there won’t be any future if we don’t adopt the law, if we don’t ban gender change,” he continued.

Reporting from Not the Bee:

Two things can be true: Some things a country does can be evil, and some things a country does can be right and just. In the "land of the free," for example, we're sexualizing and sterilizing little kids, redefining marriage to include every combo of men and women (and for some, children), and creating different sets of laws for people based on skin color (white=bad).
