28 Iran-backed terrorist groups and branches have been identified by the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD), a research institute that focuses on foreign policy and national security. These groups are located in the biblical regions of Judea and Samaria in Israel, also known as the West Bank, where Palestinians have been murdering Jews for decades.
“Iran-backed terrorist groups, including, al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, and Hamas, have proliferated in number and strengthened their presence in the West Bank in recent years,” FDD’s Long War Journal said. “The groups have established battalions (Katibat) in Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarm and beyond. Iranian arms and funding have primarily fueled this violent escalation. FDD’s Long War Journal has identified 26 West Bank branches belonging to established terrorist organizations, and two independent armed groups.”
Terrorist organizations connected to Hamas include Katibat Tulkarm, whose members claimed responsibility for a shooting attack on the Israeli community of Bat Hafer in May, Jund Allah – Tubas, which has released a video showing terrorists throwing explosives, and Katibat Aqabat Jabr, which claimed responsibility for a coordinated shooting attack with Islamic Jihad against the Israeli community of Yafit.
Terrorist groups connected to Islamic Jihad include Katibat Beit Ummar a.k.a. Katibat Hebron, which announced responsibility for attacking Israeli troops near Karmei Tzur; Qabatiya Groups, which sid it detonated an IED against an Israeli military vehicle; Burqin Groups, which shared a video demonstrating fighters training and clashing against Israeli forces; Jabaa Groups, who shot at Israeli forces on July 20, 2023; Katibat Tulkarm, which announced responsibility for detonating an IED against the IDF; Katibat Jenin, which said it shared responsibility for wounding Israeli troops with an IED blast; Katibat Tubas; Katibat Ariha, which opened fire on Israeli forces that were operating in Jericho in September 2023; Kafr Dan; and Katibat Nablus.
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades are associated with the following groups: Lions of Glory Groups Qalqilya; Rapid Response Group Tulkarm; Jalazoun Battalion; Youth of Revenge and Liberation – Nablus; Youth of Revenge and Liberation – Tulkarm; Occupied Territory; Tubas; Nour Shams Camp; Katibat Qaffin, which claimed it targeted an Israeli military vehicle with a “high explosive device”; and Youth of Revenge and Liberation – Balata Camp.
