Republicans Introduce Congressional ‘Stop the Sexualization of Children Act’

Congressional Republicans have introduced the nationwide ‘Stop the Sexualization of Children Act.’

QUICK FACTS:
  • Congressional Republicans introduced the ‘Stop the Sexualization of Children Act’ (pdf), a bill that would restrict federal funding from programs that expose children to sexual material.
  • “This commonsense bill is straightforward,” Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson said. “No federal tax dollars should go to any federal, state, or local government agencies, or private organizations that intentionally expose children under 10 years of age to sexually explicit material.”
  • The law would also prohibit any efforts toward “hosting or promoting any program, event, or literature involving sexually-oriented material, or any program, event, or literature that exposes children under the age of 10 to nude adults, individuals who are stripping, or lewd or lascivious dancing.”
  • Language in the legislation also precludes federal funds use in purchasing materials to teach pre-adolescent children about masturbation, pornography, sexual acts, and gender transition.
ILLINOIS REPUBLICAN REP. MARY MILLER ON THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION:

“We will not allow radical elites to use taxpayer dollars on perverted sex-ed curriculum and dangerous transgender policies that harm our children. I am proud to join @RepMikeJohnson in signing onto the Stop the Sexualization of Children Act! Don’t mess with our kids!” Miller said.

MORE ABOUT THE BILL:
  • “The Democrat Party and their cultural allies are on a misguided crusade to immerse young children in sexual imagery and radical gender ideology,” the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.), said in a statement. “This commonsense bill is straightforward. No federal tax dollars should go to any federal, state, or local government agencies, or private organizations that intentionally expose children under 10 years of age to sexually explicit material.”
  • Within the text of the bill it states that “it is the sense of Congress” that it is under parental choice to decide how and when to allow their children to see “material of a sexual nature,” but federal funding shouldn’t be used to “expose children under 10 years of age to sexually-oriented material.”
  • “No federal funds may be made available to develop, implement, facilitate, or fund any sexually-oriented program, event, or literature for children under the age of 10, including hosting or promoting any program, event, or literature involving sexually-oriented material, or any program, event, or literature that exposes children under the age of 10 to nude adults, individuals who are stripping, or lewd or lascivious dancing,” the bill states, in part.
BACKGROUND:
  • In June 2022, Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he was considering sending Child Protective Services against people exposing children to drag shows. “We have child protective statutes on the books. We have laws against child endangerment,” DeSantis said at the time. “It used to be kids would be off-limits. Used to be everybody agreed with that. And now it just seems like there’s a concerted effort to be exposing kids more and more to things that are not age appropriate.”
  • Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called for prosecution over a sexually explicit drag performance in front of at least one young child earlier this week. “This is grotesque, disturbing behavior. Under Texas law, local district and county attorneys are charged with taking up the mantle to protect Texas kids by prosecuting these types of totally inappropriate acts,” Paxton told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
