A heated altercation took place during the 14th vote for the House Speaker on Friday night.
Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL) confronted Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) after Gaetz declared “present” during the voting process.
As GOP leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) approached Gaetz to discuss the possibility of his support in the next round of voting, tensions flared and Gaetz could be seen pointing his finger at McCarthy.
In the commotion that followed, Rogers lunged at Gaetz and had to be restrained by Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC).
Despite Hudson holding him back and placing a hand over his mouth, Rogers angrily pointed at Gaetz and shouted, “I won’t forget this!”
In the end, Gaetz’s decision to vote “present” in the 15th round of voting allowed McCarthy to become the Speaker of the 118th Congress.
