Rep. McCormick: Isolating Russia and Arming Ukraine Could End War Within a Year

Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA) stated on Newsmax’s Newsline that Russia could be defeated within a year if properly isolated and if Ukraine is sufficiently armed. McCormick expressed confidence in President-Elect Donald Trump’s ability to broker a resolution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, despite reported resistance from the Kremlin to Trump’s proposed peace plan.

During the interview, McCormick cited Trump’s past successes in foreign policy, including the Abraham Accords, as evidence of his capability to navigate complex international disputes. He argued that decisive action against Russia could yield swift results, pointing to the nation’s economic vulnerabilities and the toll the conflict has already taken on its military.

McCormick stated, “If we isolated them, if we continue to put pressures on them, sanction them, keep India from selling back their own oil back to Europe through that venue after it’s processed, if you gave [Ukraine] the weapons that they need… we’ve shown that the Russians suffered over a half-a-million casualties, and they are struggling.” He contrasted Russia’s $2 trillion GDP with the combined $47 trillion GDP of the United States and Europe, emphasizing the West’s economic advantage.

McCormick also highlighted the importance of leveraging foreign aid legislation to strengthen the U.S. stance. He suggested that combining foreign aid bills with measures like H.R. 2 could exert additional pressure on the Senate to act decisively.

The comments come as the geopolitical focus remains on the ongoing war, with nations debating the most effective strategies to support Ukraine while addressing broader security concerns. McCormick’s remarks signal a strong stance within the Republican Party on maintaining a robust approach to isolating Russia and empowering Ukraine.
