In a high-stakes political move, U.S. Representative Luna has announced a vote to censure Democratic Representative Adam Schiff, promising to bring the motion to the House floor on Wednesday, June 22.
“I have called up my censure motion and will be bringing the vote to hold Adam Schiff accountable to the floor tomorrow,” Rep. Luna said in a Tuesday press release.
According to Luna, the vote, which initially lacked support, has now received the backing of a majority of her colleagues.
She claims that at least 20 members, who previously opposed the motion, will change their votes, along with other Members who were not present for the initial vote.
This shift in support has resulted in the securing of sufficient votes to move the censure forward.
“I have spoken to many of my colleagues. A majority of the 20 will be changing their vote to support the motion, as well as other Members who were not in town for the initial vote have let me/my office know they will be voting with us,” Luna said. “We have secured the number of votes needed to censure Adam Schiff and refer him to Ethics.”
Luna made it clear that the motion is not a move of retribution, but instead an exercise of her constitutional rights.
She highlighted the importance of holding Schiff accountable for “abusing and exploiting his official position and bringing dishonor to the House of Representatives.”
“To be clear, this is not retribution. The GOP recently voted to refer one of our own to Ethics for investigation. The fact is, as you saw today with Hunter Biden and the DOJ, there is a double standard of justice in this country,” she said.
“I look forward to restoring honor to the House of Representatives this Wednesday and appreciate the Members who have come forward to support this historical censure in an effort to bring accountability and trust back to this very sacred institution,” Luna continued.
The Florida congresswoman also expressed concerns about the current political landscape, pointing out that while the GOP holds the House, they do not have the Senate or the White House.
She emphasized the importance of utilizing the select number of tools available to them as individual Members that won’t “go to die in the Senate.”
“We have a select number of tools, like these privileged motions and the Holman rule, that we can utilize as individual Members that will not go to die in the Senate,” she said.
She concluded her statement by reiterating her commitment to represent the interests of those who elected her, as well as those who feel ignored.
“As I have stated before, I am representing the interests of those who trusted me to come here and do the right thing as well as those who have felt that their voices have been ignored and wishes disregarded,” Luna pledged.
