Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has introduced a resolution condemning the “death threats” received by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) following her introduction of a bill aimed at protecting women’s rights by restricting access to women’s restrooms in the U.S. Capitol to biological females.
In a press release, Luna denounced the “threats of violence and death” as “awful and completely unacceptable,” adding that such tactics have sadly become “standard practice” for opponents of conservative policies.
“The escalating threats of violence and death against Congresswoman Nancy Mace on social media and to her office are awful and completely unacceptable,” Luna said in a statement. “This has become standard practice among those on the other side towards those they disagree with.”
The resolution highlights several examples of threats made against Mace since she proposed her legislation, which seeks to uphold women’s privacy in Capitol facilities.
Mace’s bill comes in the wake of Delaware Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D), the first openly transgender individual elected to Congress, set to take office in January.
Luna’s resolution underscores the need for civility and safety in political discourse, calling on Congress to stand against threats and intimidation targeting lawmakers.
