Record High Migrant Encounters at U.S. Border Exceed 617,000 So Far in Fiscal Year 2023

The U.S. border is experiencing a record number of migrant encounters since the beginning of the fiscal year 2023, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources, Fox News reports.

As of Thursday, there have been a total of 617,250 encounters since October 1st.

CBP sources report an average of 6,858 encounters every day.

Out of the 617,250 encounters, 186,573 migrants were expelled under the Title 42 public health order, while the majority, 430,677 migrants, were released into the United States.

In addition, there have been 204,340 observed “Gotaways” since October 1st, or roughly 2,670 per day, according to sources.

Most of these encounters are occurring in Texas, with the El Paso sector reporting 159,186 encounters and the Del Rio sector experiencing 137,836.

These numbers surpass the encounters from the previous fiscal year, which saw over 517,000 by the end of December, and the year before that, which had just over 216,000 encounters in the same period.

In comparison, the fiscal year 2020 saw a total of 458,058 encounters.
