A website to recall Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has officially launched.
The website lists reasons why Bass is a “disaster,” providing examples such as the “failure to address homelessness,” “unsafe” public transit,” “underfunded & overworked first responders,” and other areas.
Discussing the underfunded first responders, the website says the Los Angeles Fire Department’s budget was “slashed by more than $17 million, stripping critical resources from firefighters as Los Angeles faces escalating wildfire threats and emergency response challenges. At a time when rapid response is more crucial than ever, officials are underfunding the very department responsible for protecting lives and property.” Websites supporting the statement are included.
Detailing the homelessness crisis, the website notes that Bass’ “Inside Safe” program cost $67 million while “barely making a dent” in the issue.
“At this rate, housing all of LA’s homeless would cost over $12 billion—the same amount Newsom proposed in 2021 to address homelessness across the entire state of California,” the recall effort says.
The website goes on to condemn Bass for the lack of government accountability. “Despite rampant corruption in City Hall before she took office, Karen Bass has done nothing to clean up the rot,” the site states. “Instead of pushing real reforms, she has protected the same broken system, allowing backroom deals and political favoritism to continue unchecked.”
A separate petition to recall Bass has garnered more than 175,000 signatures. “We, the undersigned residents of Los Angeles and concerned citizens, urgently call for the immediate recall of Mayor Karen Bass due to her gross mismanagement and failure to effectively respond to the devastating 2025 fires in and around the city of Los Angeles,” it reads.
Signatories cite critical issues, including strained water supplies, billions of taxpayer dollars being misallocated or unaccounted for, and the immense loss of life and property. “Families have been displaced, homes destroyed, and livelihoods shattered—yet Mayor Bass has been absent from the frontlines, choosing to travel abroad while her constituents suffer,” the petition alleges.
