Ramaswamy Calls for U.S. Military to Close Bases in Iraq, Syria

Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called for the United States military to close its bases in Iraq and Syria amid terrorist attacks on American troops.

“Why do we have troops in Syria? Why do we have troops in Iraq? We have sitting targets and now we’re going to create more sitting targets,” Ramaswamy asked Piers Morgan in an interview.

He said the bases are “trip-wires for major regional conflict.”

“If [terrorists are] hitting us on bases that we shouldn’t have been in in the first place, we’re creating the opportunities for escalation into larger scale regional war that doesn’t advance our interest. So I would bring them home.”

The statement comes as Ramaswamy previously said that he would not send aid to Israel in its war with Hamas.

Piers Morgan explained that the “whole purpose of being there is to try and maintain some sort of order.”

“And I think it’s been unsuccessful,” Ramaswamy stated.
