Pro-Palestinian demonstrators joined post–Champions League celebrations in Paris on May 31, 2025, waving Palestinian, Algerian, Tunisian, and Moroccan flags. The unrest followed Paris Saint-Germain’s 5–0 victory over Inter Milan .
Violence erupted across the city and other regions, including near the Champs-Élysées and Parc des Princes, where police used tear gas and water cannons. Authorities reported 559 arrests nationwide, 491 in Paris. Rioters set vehicles ablaze, looted shops, and clashed aggressively with police.
Two fatalities occurred: a 23‑year‑old man died in Paris after being hit by a car, and a 17‑year‑old was fatally stabbed in Dax. Nearly 200 people, including nine officers, sustained injuries.
PSG fans had also displayed a “Stop genocide in Gaza” banner and Palestinian scarves during the Munich match. This prompted UEFA warnings in Germany.
Sunday’s planned parade on the Champs-Élysées proceeded under heavy police presence to prevent further violence.
