Protesters Rally Against ICE Deportations in Michigan

At least two dozen protesters gathered in Downriver, Michigan on Sunday to demonstrate against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Trump administration’s deportation policies. The group voiced strong opposition to the increased deportation arrests targeting migrants, which they say have separated families and caused widespread fear within immigrant communities.

Many protesters shared personal stories of their families being torn apart due to ICE enforcement in Michigan. They criticized the Trump administration’s aggressive border security measures, which have prioritized the deportation of migrants with criminal records. However, rally participants argued that individuals without criminal histories have also been targeted, attributing this to racial discrimination.

Ana Jimenez, one of the protesters, emotionally recounted her own experience, detailing how her father was arrested and deported despite committing no crimes after crossing the border. Jimenez emphasized the pain and disruption her family has endured as a result of ICE enforcement.

The rally was held in response to recent deportation arrests in the Downriver area, with protesters demanding that ICE change its policies and calling for the protection of all migrants, regardless of their legal status. The event also underscored broader concerns about immigration policies under the Trump administration, which has made border security and deportations a central focus.

As the protest continued, attendees expressed hope for policy changes that would prioritize family unity over mass deportations, calling on elected officials to intervene on behalf of immigrant communities.

Last month, Seattle police arrested two individuals associated with Antifa during a direct action advocating for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

One transgender adult was taken into custody on assault charges, while a juvenile female was apprehended for obstructing police. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. at Alki Beach Park in West Seattle, where hundreds gathered to protest President Donald Trump’s nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration following years of open border policies under the Biden administration.
