Prominent Democratic National Committee (DNC) fundraiser and strategist Lindy Li has announced her departure from the Democratic Party, referring to it as a “cult” after facing intense backlash for her criticism of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Li, who raised “tens of millions of dollars” for Democratic candidates and served as a surrogate for Harris during her 2024 presidential campaign, recently voiced support for President-elect Donald Trump’s defense secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth. Her remarks, along with comments made on Fox & Friends, triggered widespread condemnation within the party.
On Piers Morgan Uncensored, Li recounted the backlash she endured, including boycott campaigns and losing 40,000 social media followers in just four days. “This past week has been harrowing,” Li told Morgan, noting that her remarks about the Democratic Party’s “stench of loser” and Harris’ “indulging in delusions” of a political comeback sparked relentless attacks.
Li described the response as a betrayal by the very party she had dedicated her career to defending. She added that the internal attacks cemented her decision to leave the Democratic Party, which she now views as intolerant of dissent and criticism.
Her departure underscores growing divisions within the party, particularly in the wake of the Democrats’ recent losses and strategic challenges. Li’s move marks a significant shift for a prominent fundraiser who was once at the heart of the party’s national operations.
