Popular Burger Chain Removing Dyes in MAHA Win

Burger chain In-N-Out announced that it is removing artificial dyes from its strawberry shake and pink lemonade. It will also remove high fructose corn syrup from its ketchup.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to providing our customers with the highest-quality ingredients, we have removed artificial coloring from our Strawberry Shakes and Signature Pink Lemonade,” an In-N-Out spokesperson told KTLA. “We’re also in the process of transitioning to an upgraded ketchup, which is made with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.”

The chain is the latest company to announce the move away from artificial ingredients.

Tyson Foods recently announced that it will eliminate the use of petroleum-based synthetic dyes in its products by the end of May, while Steak ‘n Shake has adopted beef tallow for frying. Similarly, PepsiCo is accelerating its transition away from artificial colors.

The push to replace artificial ingredients comes as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved three new natural food dyes last week in the latest effort to support “Making America Healthy Again.”

“Today we take a major step to Make America Healthy Again,” said Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in a statement. “For too long, our food system has relied on synthetic, petroleum-based dyes that offer no nutritional value and pose unnecessary health risks. We’re removing these dyes and approving safe, natural alternatives—to protect families and support healthier choices.”

Kennedy and FDA Commissioner Martin Makary announced in April that HHS and the FDA were phasing out petroleum-based synthetic dyes in the U.S. food supply.
