Pope Francis Condemns U.S. Catholic Conservatives as ‘Backwards,’ ‘Reactionary’

Pope Francis called U.S. Catholic Conservatives “backwards” because of their political views.

According to the Pope, Catholic doctrine allows for changes over time.

He described current American Catholic Conservatives as having “a very strong, organised, reactionary attitude.”

“The vision of the doctrine of the church as a monolith is wrong,” the Pope said. “When you go backward, you make something closed off, disconnected from the roots of the church.”

“I want to remind these people that backwardness is useless, and they must understand that there’s a correct evolution in the understanding of questions of faith and morals,” he noted.

The statements were made during a meeting with Portuguese members of his Jesuit religious order in Lisbon.

Reporting from The National Pulse:

The Pope has made increasingly bizarre comments in recent weeks. Last week, he urged a gathering of young Russian Catholics to follow in the path of the country’s expansionist monarchs such as Peter the Great – whom President Putin idolizes –and Catherine the Great, referring to them as having ruled over a “great, enlightened empire of great culture and great humanity.”
