According to exit polling by the Associated Press, 40% of women under 30 voted for President-Elect Donald Trump, as reported by the Daily Mail on Sunday.
“Trump’s huge rally with young women helped secure the largest portion of voters under 30 than any Republican candidate since 2008,” the article said.
Vice President Kamala Harris had aimed to appeal to young female voters, making an appearance on the Call Her Daddypodcast and securing endorsements from celebrities like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. Despite these efforts, Harris struggled to gain the level of support anticipated.
CNN exit polls indicated that Harris held an eight-point lead among women voters overall, though this margin was significantly smaller than the advantage President Joe Biden achieved with women voters in 2020, as reported by AFP on Wednesday.
“But only 13 percent of voters under 30 said abortion was their number one concern. In stark contrast, 40 percent of that age group said the economy was their main worry. Another 11 percent of under 30s said immigration was their top issue,” the Mail article said.
