Poll Finds Majority of Voters Support FBI Investigation into Liz Cheney

A majority of likely voters support an FBI investigation of Liz Cheney, a key member of the partisan January 6 Committee, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll released on Thursday. Some House Republicans are calling for an FBI investigation into Cheney for allegedly tampering with “at least one” witness of the partisan panel.

Cheney, however, has publicly stated that she should not face jail time for any alleged wrongdoing related to the incident. Despite her defense, the poll revealed that 57% of likely voters support an FBI investigation into the matter, indicating significant public interest in probing Cheney’s actions.

The Rasmussen Reports survey sampled 1,099 likely voters between December 17 and 19, with a margin of error of three percentage points. The findings suggest that Cheney’s actions have not gone unnoticed and that many believe an investigation is warranted.

Additionally, a report released on December 17 by House Administration Oversight Subcommittee chairman Barry Loudermilk sheds light on what he calls a troubling mishandling of evidence by the January 6 Committee. The report alleges that the committee “neglected or withheld evidence” in its final report and “deleted voluminous records it should have preserved.” Loudermilk’s press release outlined several key points regarding Cheney’s role in the investigation: First, Cheney reportedly colluded with Cassidy Hutchinson, the committee’s star witness, without Hutchinson’s attorney’s knowledge. Second, Cheney is said to have potentially engaged in criminal witness tampering based on new information regarding her communications. Third, Hutchinson’s most outrageous claims were unsupported by evidence, and the committee was aware of this when they promoted her testimony. Furthermore, Loudermilk noted that computer forensic investigators discovered that 117 files were either deleted or encrypted by the committee’s members.

The findings of this report, alongside the Rasmussen poll, continue to fuel calls for a deeper investigation into the January 6 Committee’s actions, including Cheney’s role.
