Anti-Bezos activists have threatened political violence at Amazon founder Jeff Bezos‘ wedding in Venice, pledging to disrupt the event and “make sure they choke on their wedding cake.” The billionaire’s high-profile $7 million celebration with fiancée Lauren Sanchez is scheduled to take place aboard his $500 million superyacht, Koru, anchored just outside the historic city.
The local “No Space for Bezos” group labeled the couple “technocrat feudal overlords” and declared their intent to blockade Venice’s key canals, a move that would severely disrupt city logistics. “We’ll throw ourselves into the canal if we have to,” one protester said, according to Vanity Fair Italy.
If these extremists follow through, city-wide consequences would be immediate. “They would definitely block the Grand Canal… so it would create quite a lot of issues. The goods wouldn’t arrive,” a local Despar supermarket representative warned. Food shortages and inflated prices could follow.
These protests reflect a broader trend of anti-capitalist aggression masquerading as local activism. The campaigners, who hung a “Bezos” banner with a red X over St. Mark’s tower, seem less concerned with tourism’s real issues and more intent on vilifying success and wealth.
Protesters reportedly plan to arm themselves with water pistols to cause further disruption. “We don’t object to the marriage, but to the hubris,” one protest leader said. This signals a growing tolerance for harassment and disorder under the banner of social justice—a tactic increasingly normalized across Europe’s left-wing protest movements.
