Severe winter weather has caused hazardous conditions across Pennsylvania, including a freak accident in Greensburg on Monday morning. Snow and a wintry mix led to numerous road incidents, keeping police and first responders busy throughout the day.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Steve Limani noted that while the volume of crashes wasn’t extreme, it was significantly higher than usual. Among the incidents was a troubling accident in the parking lot of an orthopedic office in Hempfield Township at around 8 a.m.
Troopers reported that 74-year-old Paul Tucci was struck by the rear side of a plow truck operated by Westmoreland Landscapes LLC. The truck, equipped with a salt spreader, did not run over Tucci but either dragged or pushed him. Authorities believe Tucci had just left a doctor’s appointment at the time of the incident.
“It’s kind of a little bit of a freak incident,” said Limani. Witnesses at the scene indicated the driver was unaware of the collision. Tucci was transported to a local hospital before being transferred to a Pittsburgh facility for further treatment. Despite suffering serious injuries, he is expected to survive.
Troopers are still investigating to determine if any negligence occurred. Limani stated that there were no initial signs of reckless or negligent driving. “It’s real early in our investigation,” he said.
As snow continues to create challenges, Limani emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance for everyone navigating winter conditions. “We’re early on into our season, so maybe we can just be vigilant so we don’t have any other accidents like this take place.”
Westmoreland Landscapes LLC has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
